During our road trip in Iceland we visited this waterfall three times. In fact, the third time was not planned. We were in our hostel when we noticed a forecast for high solar activity. We grabbed our cameras and warm clothing and made our way to Skogafoss. Aurora Borealis had already begun to dance in the sky when we arrived. There were amazing green and purple tones all over the place. We set up our cameras and stood in awe, watching the incredible show. The sky was clear, and stars could be seen in the night sky. The light show went on for over an hour, and even though it was freezing outside, we just couldn’t leave!

Northern lights are for sure an unforgettable experience. We were lucky enough to watch them many times during our road trip in Iceland! An amazing experience! Here is a collection of my favorite photographs with aurora borealis available as fine art prints!

Godafoss is a spectacular waterfall located in Northern Iceland. You can visit it from both sides and if you are careful with the slippery rocks you can also get close to where its water falls. And if the sky is clear and you are lucky it’s a great location to view the northern lights. In this photograph you can see the Northern Lights aka Aurora Borealis dancing in the night sky over this breathtaking waterfall! Definitely worth visiting it!

The first time you see the Northern lights is one of those moments that are engraved in your mind forever! That typical Icelandic night was freezing cold, the air was blowing away our cameras and our lenses were covered with water spray. But there were no clouds, the solar activity was really high and so we were very lucky to witness an amazing aurora borealis show while we were at Gullfoss waterfall!
